This volume aims to revive the lively debate among Hegel's interpreters and to examine whether Hegelian theory departs from the principle of non-contradiction, formulated by Aristotle in the fourth book of the Metaphysics and recognized by much of the philosophical tradition as the ultimate, absolutely incontrovertible truth of knowledge. The use of the plural in the title refers to the intrinsically multiple conceptual profile of Hegelian theory, to the impossibility of reducing it to just one of its intrinsic meanings: not only does the concept of contradiction evolve over the course of Hegel's thought, but, in the systematic exposition of the Encyclopedia , it takes on a different meaning with reference to the fields of logic, the philosophy of nature, and the philosophy of spirit.
